Peugot Independence – The Mobility Car
Independence – it’s what many wheelchair users crave in their lives. And helping many to achieve such a desire is a wheelchair accessible vehicle which truly lives up to its name. Introducing the classy and versatile Peugeot Independence!
The first thing to say about the Independence is it’s not a single mobility car. It comes in several different models, thus covering a variety of differing needs and preferences for wheelchair users and their families.
For example, the Independence Twin has the capability of carrying two wheelchair passengers at the same time. The other models are the Independence S, which comes with a number of different seating layouts, and the Independence SE with extra headroom.
No matter the model, the Independence is the perfect choice for large families or small groups. And an excellent driving experience is almost guaranteed thanks to the quality finish and attention to detail of the design and the in-built comfort which has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.
Then there’s the question of running costs, extremely important given the state of the economy and the high cost of living. In that important department, the Peugeot Independence ticks all the right boxes. It’s based on the Peugeot’s popular Expert Tepee and therefore comes with an efficient and highly responsive HDi diesel engine delivering fantastic fuel economy. Perfect for driving in an urban environment.
Whether the wheelchair user has a large or a small family, the Independence is designed to cope. The Independence S can carry a driver, a wheelchair passenger and up to six seated passengers. The Independence Twin can carry up to four seated passengers as well as two wheelchair users. The SE can take two seated passengers, the wheelchair user and the driver.
No matter the model, they all come with a variety of wheelchair accessible features designed for maximum accessibility, comfort and safety. The features include lowering air suspension, unique lightweight folding rear ramp, full wheelchair restraint system, and lap and diagonal seatbelts for both wheelchair and seated passengers alike.
All these WAV models also come with a host of standard features offering excellent flexibility, safety and convenience, including two sliding doors and a tailgate for hassle-free entry and exit. Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) and Emergency Braking Assist (EBS) are fitted as standard and combine to minimise the risk of skidding. They also help dramatically in the reduction of stopping distance.
Other safety and security features include rear fog and reversing light, driver airbag, three-point seatbelts, four-point wheelchair restraint system, rear parking sensors, internally adjustable driver’s door mirror, height-adjustable front head restraints, central locking, electric front windows, air conditioning, height-adjustable steering wheel, distance to next service indicator, lights on warning alarm, radio and CD player.
Optional extras include an electric winch, for either ramp assistance or wheelchair entry, and front parking sensors. A TomTom GPS car navigation system can also be fitted as an optional extra if required.
There’s no doubt the Peugeot Independence lives up to its name. With its built-in flexibility, convenience and abundant safety features, it has a great deal to offer all wheelchair users.
